Wrapped in Courage Flag Raising - November 25, 2024

On Monday, November 25th, the Town of Fort Erie raised the Wrapped in Courage Flag, which raises awareness for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, which also falls within Women Abuse Prevention Month in Ontario and launches the internationally recognized 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. Fort Erie is committed to taking action to respond to the high rates of gender-based violence that impacts the community and communities across Ontario. Last year, the Ontario Association of Interval and Transition Houses reported that 62 women and children were killed in this province as a result of domestic violence; each of these women and children represents a life cut short, families torn apart, and communities left grieving. The Town of Fort Erie will be flying the Wrapped in Courage flag for 16 days and look forward to the day when domestic violence and intimate partner violence are no longer part of our society.

Santa Claus Parade

Mayor Redekop shared that the Santa Claus Parade was the best in recent memory. The Town participated with two vehicles, the brand new dump truck with snow plow and sander attachment and the Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee. The Mayor and Councillors Dubanow, Flagg, Lewis and McDermott walked the parade with MYAC. The Mayor shared that it was an excellent evening with magnificent floats and one of the largest crowds he had ever seen. Mayor Redekop thanked everyone who participated.
